Alec Lynch

President

Alec Lynch is a member of the Theta Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society. He is a third year Global Studies Major with a Minor in History and an intended minor in African and Middle Eastern Studies. In addition to being a member of PAT, Alec is involved in the Bruin Leaders Project on campus, an organization that strives to help students harness necessary leadership skills for the workplace and for everyday life. Alec hopes to pursue Marketing after graduating college, but retains love for History as it has always been a subject of deep interest for him.

Max Callahan

Vice President

Max Callahan is a member of the Theta Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society. He is a second-year History major from Connecticut. His favorite historical periods are the ancient Mediterranean and the Middle East. One day Max hopes to utilize his love for history by becoming a historical consultant for movies, video games, and other media in order to bring history to a younger, more tech-based population. Max’s interests outside of history include backpacking, surfing, and playing guitar and he looks forward to meeting everyone this fall!

Anna Bretz

Executive Director

Anna Bretz is a member of the Theta Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society. She is a third year student currently double majoring in Psychology and History. She is involved in the College Honors Program, Bruin Film Society, and works as a Resident Assistant on the Hill. Though she plans to pursue a graduate degree in clinical psychology after her time at UCLA, she has a deep fondness for history and expects to remain a student of the subject for the rest of her life.

Manu Vegunta

Director of Social Media Relations

Manu Vegunta is a member of the Theta Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society. He is a fourth year double majoring in Business Economics and History. In addition to PAT, Manu is a member of the boxing team, having previously served as its treasurer for one year as well as maintaining an undefeated record in collegiate bouts. His historical interest lies in the History of the Working Class. Upon graduation Manu has accepted a position in financial consulting for Price Waterhouse Cooper. Manu is excited to finish his time at UCLA as a member of the PAT Board and looks forward to an incredible year!


Brett Cooper

Editor-in-Chief of Quaestio

Brett Cooper is editor-in-chief of UCLA’s honors history journal, Quaestio. She is a fourth year English major with a creative writing concentration and a minor in Film. In addition to PAT, Brett is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and the UCLA Snow Team. Off campus, she is a HERlead Fellow and has started three non-profits organizations, with her social entrepreneurship efforts being supported by Disney, ANN Inc., and the Vital Voices Global Partnership. Brett’s historical interest resides in the intersection of history and novelist literature, and she’s excited to share this love through this year’s journal publications.

Fiona Perry

Standards Chair

Fiona Perry is a member of the Theta Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society. She is a fourth year History Major with a Minor in Music Industry. In addition to being a member of PAT, she is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and Tau Sigma National Honors Society. Her favorite historical periods are Modern Europe during the 19th century, the History of Women from 1860 to 1980, and Music History during the 20th century. Once she graduates, Fiona hopes to go to law school to pursue a career in entertainment law. She is so looking forward to meeting all of the new members and hopes everyone has a great year!

Sara Eckmann

Associate Editor of Quaestio

Sara Eckmann is the Associate Editor of the 20/21 edition of Quaestio. She is a second-year History Major with a Minor in German. In addition to PAT, Sara is on the executive board of the Pre-Law Society and an editor for the UCLA Undergraduate Law Journal. Sara’s historical interest lies in the literary representations of women in the medieval and early modern periods, a topic she is currently researching as part of a departmental honors thesis. She is so excited to share her love of historical writing in this year’s journal publication!

Steven Bech

Website Editor

Steven Bech is an international student from Germany and served as the Website Editor for Phi Alpha Theta’s Theta Upsilon chapter at UCLA since Feb. 5, 2021. With a major in history (with a special emphasis on military history) and minors in film, television and digital media and anthropology, he plans to accurately combine many historical events with the art of storytelling. Inspired by directors such as Clint Eastwood and Randall Wallace, he aims to become a filmmaker, making it his priority to evoke the same fascination for history in young minds that he feels today. Beyond PAT, he is also part of the UCLA Honors Program, the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URSP), and the UCLA History Honors Program, for which he is conducting a yearlong research thesis on the reactions of East and West Germany to the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. He is also a member of the History Undergraduate Advisory Board (HUAB).
